The channel does not broadcast in North America.

Being owned by the United States Military, with its programs being licensed from other networks, AFN Family and AFN's other stations are run commercial-free, with public service announcements, and other short segments such as music videos and clips from the networks' shows that fill air time that would otherwise be filled by advertisements. The network airs The Backyardigans during it's preschool morning block, as well as other Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, and syndicated programs, to name a few.

The channel was launched in 2005/2006 as a replacement for AFN Kids, another morning block intended for preschoolers and older kids.

As of 2021, Backyardigans repeats have been airing since 2007, airing Wednesdays at 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM each afternoon in Pacific Time.[1]
