The pilots of The Backyardigans were produced in 1998 at Nickelodeon Studios Florida, and in 2001-2002 at Nick Digital. Austin was already planned at that time, but he only made his debut six years later, in Pirate Treasure. Uniqua, Pablo, and Tyrone appear in the 2 pilots.
